Facelifts, like all medical treatment, are constantly evolving and improving. At our Sydney practice, we are proud to offer the short scar or limited incision meloplasty (facelift), a technique with smaller incisions and shorter recovery time than a full meloplasty (full facelift). The Incision Pattern

The short scar facelift, also known as the MACS-lift (Minimal Access Cranial Suspension lift) is largely defined by its incision location. Dr. Perkins will create a small, carefully concealed incision in front of your ear and along your hairline. He will use a crisscrossing pattern to better hide the incision in your hair. Thanks to this process, any scarring will usually be virtually undetectable.

The Procedure

Through the incision, the surgeon will carefully lift the skin and raise the underlying muscles, suturing them into their new positions. The first suture will help to tighten and lift the tissues around the cheekbones and jaw. The second will minimize the nasolabial fold, the deep crease that runs between your nose and the corners of your mouth. If needed, Dr. Perkins will place a third suture, which will help to lift the cheek and lower eyelid. Finally, he will remove any excess skin before replacing your earlobe and closing the incisions.

Results and Recovery

The short scar meloplasty (facelift) takes about 2.5 hours to complete, and recovery lasts two to three weeks. In comparison, traditional full facelifts take about 3.5 – 4 hours and require three to four weeks of recovery. However, although the incision is smaller and the recovery time shorter, limited incision facelifts still have excellent cosmetic results by tightening the area in your mid-face and upper neck. At the same time, the results are extremely subtle and natural. The results will generally last for a decade or more following a limited incision facelift and will typically last better if you are in good health, do not smoke, and protect yourself from sun exposure.
