Improve the Shape of Your Body with Abdominal Liposuction
If you constantly cover up at the pool, dress in dark clothing, and conceal your stomach under layers of clothing, belly fat may be affecting your confidence. Whether you have “baby weight” leftover from pregnancy or you’ve always been round across the middle, extra fat in the abdominal area can negatively affect your well-being and appearance. If you’ve tried diet and exercise, but you’ve seen no results, perhaps you should think about professional assistance with weight loss. Consider reshaping your body in our Sydney plastic surgeryoffice with abdominal liposuction. We offer liposuction to give you the shapely, attractive body that you want and deserve.
Why Liposuction?
If you want to reduce your overall body weight, liposuction is not the treatment for you. But if your goal is to reduce fat pockets that are concentrated in a specific “problem” area, like the abdomen, liposuction may be the right solution. Usually an outpatient procedure, liposuction requires approximately two to seven days of down time, and results can last a lifetime, with proper diet and exercise.
Tummy Tuck vs. Liposuction
There is often confusion about which plastic surgery procedure is right for eradicating excess belly fat. Many patients assume they must decide between a tummy tuck (or abdominoplasty) and abdominal liposuction. However, that’s not the case. You can undergo both procedures for optimal results. The less invasive procedure, liposuction, is performed to suction excess fat out of the stomach. If the patient has loose, excess skin in addition to fat, liposuction will be performed simultaneously with a tummy tuck. At your consultation, Dr. Perkins will discuss your goals, and then recommend the procedure, or combination of procedures, best suited for your case.
Location of Belly Fat
Successful abdominal liposuction greatly depends on the location of your belly fat. There are two types of fat in the abdomen: surface fat, found between the skin and abdominal muscles, and deep fat, or visceral fat, which lies deep within the abdomen. If most of your excess belly fat is located superficially, on the surface, then you may be an excellent candidate for abdominal liposuction. Surface fat is the most easily removed, and patients with excess fat concentrated on the surface are generally very pleased with the results of abdominal liposuction.
Liposuction Recovery
There’s more good news when it comes to abdominal liposuction. Pain management after the simple procedure requires little more than an over-the-counter medication, like Tylenol. Soreness after surgery has been compared to the feeling experienced after too much exercise. The greatest post-operative pain during recovery is felt when the skin is touched or pulled.
As for returning to your regular activities, with the exception of strenuous activity, you may do so whenever you feel comfortable. In fact, most people return to work a couple of days after surgery. After the initial 36 to 72 hours, when soreness and swelling are most intense, the initial discomfort will be a distant memory. Heavy exercise should be avoided for four to six weeks.
